Program Overview and Results

The Going Global Defense Initiative provides a diversification of Virginia’s defense-related companies into new international markets, thereby ensuring their long-term economic survival and continued ability to supply to U.S. defense forces. During Year 1 and Year 2 of the Going Global Defense Initiative, July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2015, the following results were obtained:

  • A total of 251 companies were accepted into the Going Global Defense Initiative, filling all of the program components to capacity.
  • All proposed grant activities were executed, including 362 market research projects, 53 export compliance projects, 40 digital localization projects, 15 contract and proposal generation projects, 35 technical translation projects, and 7 international certification projects.
  • Eleven export training seminars and nine business community outreach workshops were conducted, drawing a total of 1,460 attendees.
  • Companies participating in the Going Global Defense Initiative projected a 96% increase in international sales over the next two years.
