The Going Global Defense Initiative leverages federal funding to mitigate the impact of defense spending cuts on Virginia’s economy. Between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014, $1.5 million is available to help Virginia’s defense-related companies diversify into new international markets.
As a part of this initiative, eligible defense-related companies can receive assistance with marketing, strategy, compliance, and matchmaking services to increase international sales. Both new-to-export companies and current exporters will receive training and resources to obtain long term sales in international markets.
Export-related services will be available to participating companies through the following program offering:
Utilize VEDP – International Trade’s Global Network team of in-country consultants in over 57 countries for market research. Services include compiling background information, identifying potential distributors, conducting due diligence, and assessing competition, helping your company understand the regulatory environment, and business matchmaking services.
Receive an export compliance analysis, including guidance on completing a Commodities Jurisdiction Analysis and submitting the required paperwork to the Department of State in compliance with ITAR.
Receive assistance in enhancing your company’s marketing and digital presence for target foreign markets. Services include search engine optimization (SEO), website translation, digital marketing strategy, re-imaging, and basic shopping cart integration.
Participate in a series of one-day training sessions, held throughout Virginia, on export issues relevant to defense-related companies. Click here for more information and to register.

Eligible defense-related companies can receive business matchmaking services through Trade Missions and Independent Market Visits. VEDP – International Trade arranges these trips for companies to meet with potential partners, distributors, and customers. These well-planned visits are business meetings set up on your behalf, with your input, to save you time and maximize your results.
At defense-related trade shows, VEDP’s booth is the ideal ‘home base’ while you walk the trade show. Enjoy the convenience of Virginia personnel in the booth at all times to take messages, greet visitors while you are away and connect you with relevant prospects.
