Lee is an International Trade Manager representing central Virginia and she is based out of the Richmond office. Her mission is to promote, connect, and assist Virginia companies to increase their sales revenue through exporting. Lee brings 20+ years of professional experience with a broad range of expertise encompassing Strategy, Business Development, Marketing, Branding, Positioning, and Program Management.
Prior to joining VEDP Lee led international economic development programs with the Department of Defense (DoD), where she oversaw the identification and execution of projects and initiatives designed to modernize and increase the value of traditional Afghan industries and goods. Lee also worked to elevate Afghanistan’s business profile in the global market by promoting the export of consumer goods and facilitating private sector investment into the country. During her 5 years working in Afghanistan, Lee is most proud of her efforts to fund and develop the International Center for Afghan Women’s Economic Development at the American University of Afghanistan. Prior to Afghanistan, she was a Strategic Investment Manager for DoD on their private investment facilitation team in Iraq.
Her experience also includes 5 years based in Kenya. During this time, she worked with the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program in Nairobi, where she gained significant field experience throughout the East Africa region, and before that as a counselor at The Baraka School in rural Kenya. Her past experience also includes working as a news producer for television and radio and in fundraising and event management for a broad range of nonprofit organizations in New York City.
Lee is a Virginia native and holds a BA with dual majors in Political Science and in International Affairs from James Madison University and an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town.
