International Trade Manager | Northwest Region
Joel is an International Trade Manager for VEDP – International Trade and is responsible for the Northwest Virginia office.
Joel comes to the International Trade Division of VEDP after being General Manager of USA Hardwoods LLC, a hardwood lumber export brokerage firm. In that capacity, Joel oversaw the start-up and development of international sales to Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Estonia, Germany, and Mexico. He has first-hand experience of the procedures and documentation needed to successfully sell in international markets.
From 2008 – 2014, Joel was the International Marketing Specialist – Forest Products for the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) – Office of International Marketing. In that role, Joel worked directly with forest products suppliers in Virginia by assisting them in developing markets and sales abroad.
Prior to his employment with VDACS, Joel worked in private sales from 2003 – 2008. From 1998 – 2003, Joel was the wood products specialist at the West Virginia Development Office, and from 1991 – 1998 he was employed by the Appalachian Hardwood Center at West Virginia University as the wood products marketing specialist.
Joel has a Masters Degree in Forest Economics from SUNY – ESF at Syracuse, a Bachelors in Forest Resources Management from West Virginia University, and an Associates of Applied Science in Forest Technology from the New York State Ranger School.
Joel is excited about joining the International Trade Team and putting his experience and education to use assisting companies in Virginia with their international sales efforts.
